Cruicetown Cemetery Conservation Committee, in Nobber hosted a public talk and tour in the cemetery, detailing its history, on Tuesday 20th August at 7.30pm.

The talk was given by Henry Cruise, who detailed the period from the coming of the Normans in 1169 to the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

Henry, who is a member of the Rahood branch of the Cruise family,  discussed the history of the Anglo Norman Cruise family, the Cruicetown Motte and Bailey, the 12th Century church and the Cruise Tomb which dates from the 17th century.

The talk coincided with a week-long series of events in Meath from the 17th - 25th August, as part of National Heritage Week 2013 highlighting the county’s history and heritage.

The Cruicetown Cemetery Conservation Committee has over recent years been compiling a thorough history and research of the graveyard and in this regard the Committee is very interested in contacting family members of those interred in the graveyard.

The Committee would like to make contact with families and relatives of known burials in Cruicetown.  Committee members, as part of their research, are checking burial records in Nobber and neighbouring parishes and have researched the cemetery’s history.

The next meeting of Cruicetown Cemetery Conservation Committee is in Nobber Parochial House on Tuesday 3rd September at 7.30pm.
