Drumconrath's Alan McEvoy
18 October 2010

Drumconrath 4-4
Kilmainhamwood 1-8

Drumconrath won their first U21 game in a few years with a hard fought battling performance over a Kilmainhamwood side that never gave up. Drums where hit a blow before the throw in when star midfielder Sean McMahon turned on his ankle and could take no part in proceedings.

Drumconrath attacked from the off but had nothing to show as The Wood had 3 points on the board after 3 attacks but Drums got a break when a long free from Terry Halpenny deceived the Kwood goalman and ended up in the back of the net.

Kilmainhamwood responded well and pointed soon after but after a good through ball Tommy Fay 1st timed a neat lob to the net to give Drums the lead. Conor Martin pointed a free soon after and Drumconrath missed some chances as the Wood netted late in the half to leave scores level at the break 2-1 to 1-4.

A good start to the 2nd half as direct from the throw in Fay fielded well and scored his 2nd goal and this was followed by a free from Conor Martin and David OHalloran scored from play as Kilmainhamwood pressed hard and pointed 4 times in a row to narrow the gap to a single point as Halpenny now in goals saved well at the expense of a 45.

Conor Martin fielded well and kicked a neat point on the turn as soon after substitutes Nial and John Martin combined well for John to find the net and ensure a Drums victory. Drumconrath had good performances from Patrick Dunne, Michael Og Gallagher,Alan McEvoy and Oran Finnegan.

Drumconrath - David O'Halloran (0-1); Peter McEvoy, Patrick Dunne; David Hickey, Keith McConnon, Michael Og Gallagher; Oran Finnegan, Alan McEvoy; Eoin Martin, Terry Halpenny (1-0), Brendan Lyons; Tommy Fay (2-0), Conor Martin (0-3). Subs Niall Martin for E. Martin and John Martin (1-0) for Fay.

U17: Round 2
Drumconrath/Meath Hill better Moynalty
18 September 2010

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-11
Moynalty 1-5.

In what was a close first half Drumconrath/Meath Hill opened the scoring with a Dara McGrath pointed free on 4 minutes.

Moynalty responded well with Paul Lynch pointing but a slick move down field seen the ball transfered quickly to Patrick Farrelly and he made no mistake as the net bulged.

Soon after Farrelly pointed and two more McGrath points left it 1-4 to 0-4 after 20 minutes. McGrath goaled on 22 minutes but Moynalty got a major of their own on 25 minutes. The home side finished the half well as Jack Corscadden pointed and Shane McCabe tapped over a free but Drumconrath/Meath Hill had a player sent off just on the half time whistle and looked to have a battle royale to hold onto their 2-6 to 1-4 half time lead.

Moynalty where fired up for the second half but the home side worked hard and after 40 minutes while both sides kicked a number of wides each no one troubled the score keeper. Two David O'Halloran points on 41 and 47 minutes gave Drumconrath/Meath Hill side a 7 point lead and with Tommie Rooney in commanding form, extra man or not, Moynalty had a big hill to climb.

Paul Lynch did point a free on 52 minutes but that was the only return the visitors had for the second half as the Red and Blue soaked up the pressure and hit points from McGrath, Farrelly and Eoin Martin to ease home comfortably in the end.

Rooney was easily man of the match and got good support from Daniel Myles, Jonathon Finnegan, David O'Halloran with Farrelly and McGrath always a threat up front.

Drumconrath/Meath Hill - Niall Yorke; David Hickey, Tomas Conlon; Eoin Martin (0-1), Jonathon Finnegan, Daniel Myles; Tommie Rooney, David O'Halloran (0-2); Patrick Farrelly (1-2), Jack Corscadden (0-1), Shane McCabe (0-1); Dara McGrath (1-4), Patrick Carolan. Sub Luke Doran for McCabe.

North Meath finished a tough U-15 FL programme when going under to a clearly better Clann na nGael outfit.

Gaeil Colmcille came out well in the second half and after 45 minutes narrowed the gap to just 4 points 0-12 to 1-5 but a fortunate Shane McCabe goal eased the pressure and with that the Kells comeback faded.

Tommie Rooney was outstanding for the Red and Blue and he was really well supported by Daniel Myles, David Hickey, Ian Malone and Paddy Carolan.

04 September 2010

Duleek/Bellewstown 2-12
North Meath Gaels 0-4

North Meath Gaels are finding the U-15 League tough going and shipped another heavy defeat.

They played well in the 1st half and trailed 2-4 to 0-3 with Jonathon Bynre (2) and Conor OHalloran scoring.

An early score from Tomas Conlon was all they had to show for the second half but they defended well to the end but had no luck in front of goals.

North Meath suffered a heavy defeat to a well balanced Oldcastle outfit. Indeed but for some fine defending and good goalkeeping the margin could have been a lot higher.

At half time Oldcastle led 1-8 to 0-2 and while North Meath did pick it up a little in the 2nd half Oldcastle continued to dominate.

Conor OHalloran, Ryan Owens, Martin Shields, Colm McEvoy and James Mooney tried hardest for North Meath.

U-16
U16 final: Division 5 title for North Meath Gaels

North Meath Gaels Under 16's celebrate at Carlanstown
25 August 2010

North Meath Gaels 4-17
Moynalty 2-6

After a close first half North Meath Gaels pulled away to dispose of a stubborn Moynalty challenge in the U16 Division 5 FL final.

North Meath started in whirlwind fashion and had three points in the first three minutes from Daniel Myles and Shane McCabe (2) but Moynalty responded well and where awarded a penalty on 7 minutes which was expertly converted by Kevin Maguire. Moynalty went on to dominate the next 15 minutes and had a five point advantage when a loose ball was pulled on and ended up in the North Meath net.

Indeed two good saves by Conor O'Halloran ensured that the Moynalty lead was only five points as the half came to a close 2-5 to 0-6 with Myles and Tomas Conlon (2) pointed for North Meath on break away attacks.

Patrick Farrelly narrowed the gap to 4 points and when Ian Malone netted on the second attempt after the Moynalty keeper Jonathon Lynch parried his first shot the gap was down to a single point. North Meath won the kick out and Conlon pointed from 35 meters to leave the sides level at the break 1-8 to 2-5.

Again North Meath started the second half as they did the first with Myles and Malone pointing and when Malone finished a good move when powering to the net on 38 minutes things looked good for North Meath. Soon after Patrick Farrelly also goaled and further points from Myles (3), Malone (2), Conlon and Farrelly put the game well beyond Moynalty's reach as a cheeky 13 meter McCabe free caught them off guard and ended nestly in the corner of the net. Moynalty did manage a pointed free but had no answer to North Meath's second half onslaught.

Thomas McGrath, Padraig Carolan, Adam Farrelly, Jonathon Finnegan along with the scorers played really well for North Meath as co captains Daniel Myles, Thomas McGrath and Niall Yorke received the Trophy from Coiste Fe 18 PRO Ultan Fitzpatrick.

McGivern Cup Final [Junior]
Meath Hill 0-11
Drumconrath 1-7

Meath Hill won the bragging rights for the second time this year with a hard earned one point victory over their parish neighbours before a good sized crowd at damp Drumconrath on Saturday.

Drumconrath opened well with Austin Hickey a focal point of their attack and Terry Skelly and Sean McMahon on top at midfield they owned the ball early on. Christopher Tighe bundled the ball into the net on four minutes after a Hickey centre troubled the Meath Hill keeper.

B League
Tadhg Boyle and Mark Tully pointed frees to settle the Hill but Sean McMahon made it 1-1 to 0-2 after a close 1st quarter. Drumconrath suffered a blow on six minutes as Hickey pulled a hamstring and was replaced.

Alan Byrne pushed Drums a goal up again and then McMahon and Tully pointed frees to continue with the close theme of the encounter. No further scores arrived until the 29th minute when Mark Tully pointed Meath Hills 1st score from play to leave it 1-3 to 0-4 at the break.

Drums opened well with a Peter McEvoy point at the start of the second half but with captain Keith Ginnity playing well at mid field Meath Hill controlled the middle third of the second half and points from Boyle (2 frees) and 2 points from play from Pauric Smith edged Meath Hill one point ahead by the 50th minute.

Sean Reilly pointed for Drumconrath to level the game but points from Mark Tully (2) and Smith had Meath Hill three to the good as the game entered the last 5 minutes. Drumconrath pressed hard and Alan Byrne pointed after Skelly was fouled and when Byrne was awarded another free late on his shot was deflected over not unlike Kildares effort last week as Meath Hill held out for a narrow win.

In a game played in good spirit Meath Hill had good players in Aodhan Matthews, Keith Ginnity, Tadhg Boyle Mark Tully and Pauric Smith while the home side had good displays from Thomas Carolan, John Lynch, Oran Finnegan, Brendan Lyons and Terry Skelly.

After the game Tom McGivern son of Tommy presented the Cup to Meath Hill captain Keith Ginnity as both clubs will look to 2011 and hope their fortunes will take a turn for the better.

BFL 5: Drumconrath'c chances hit in Ashbourne

Drumconrath's Leighton Irwin

05 August 2010
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-9
Drumconrath 1-8

Drumconrath as good as bowed out of the running in the B League as they now must rely on results to go their way to advance.

Down 1-4 to 0-3 at the break they fought their way back into the game and looked to be in control when Sean Reilly netted but a penalty turned the tide as Drums last hope of success for 2010 faded in the evening light.

Peter Tighe, Oran Finnegan Kevin Flanagan and Sean Reilly played well.

BFL 5: Dunsany end Drumconrath's hopes
Drumconrath's Peter Tighe
30 August 2010

Dunsany 2-6
Drumconrath 2-5

Drumconrath saw their chances of a playoff to reach the B League Final slip away after a hotly disputed penalty given on 56 minutes seen Dunsany keep their 100% record and go on to meet Clann na nGael in the Final. Drumconrath needed a win to get a playoff with the Athboy men.

Drums playing with the breeze started well and two Terry Halpenny points along with points from Alan McEvoy and Paul McMahon had them 0-4 to 0-1 up. Two late Dunsany frees left only one point in it at the break and Drumconrath looked like they had a mountain to climb in the second half as the breeze stiffened.

They made a fair attempt to climb it and despite Dunsany hitting the first three points of the second half, substitute Conor Martin hit 1-1 and a further Sean McMahon goal had the home side 2-5 to 0-6 up with 10 minutes to go.

Straight after Martin's goal Dunsany netted one of their own and with Drums for the main part defending well, it seemed they might hold out but for that late penalty decision.

Drumconrath - David O'Halloran; Keith McConnon, Patrick Carolan, John Lynch; Peter Tighe, Oran Finnegan, Terry Halpenny (0-2); Sean McMahon (1-0), Alan McEvoy (0-1); Paul McMahon (0-1), Peter McEvoy, Gavin Finnegan; Eoin Martin, Alan Dunne, Mark Reilly. Sub Conor Martin (1-1) for Reilly.
