The Meath Field Names Group is a voluntary group established in May 2008. This project is to record and publish the ‘Field Names’ of County Meath along with their history, folklore and relevant information. The project is guided by an elected Steering Group along with a network of local volunteers and the goodwill of Meath IFA, Meath Archaeological & and Historical Society and Meath County Council Library Services. This project is generously supported by Meath Partnership through the Leader Programme and FBD Trust.
The project ran a series of training workshops around the County between March and May 2010 and since then teams of volunteers have been working in each area gathering field names and associated information on a townland by townland basis.
Additional volunteers are always welcome. To obtain a copy of our Help Guide Booklet or other information please contact the Project Co-ordinator.
Due to circumstances beyond our control the official website of Meath Field Names Project (meathfieldnames.com) is off line until approx. Christmas 2010. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
